Well, I think Mimi is upsetting me in this, in that she’s using her mother to say things that are not true. And that’s what I don’t like about it.
I know that Mimi was Olaiya’s daughter because she told me. We were shopping once in 2002. We were in Clearwater, Florida and we went to Dillard’s. And I wanted to go shopping for something to buy for my cousins. I have two cousins so I would always send them something.
And she goes, “Wait a minute! This looks great.” And I said, “What are you talking about?” She goes, “This blouse.” I said, “But it’s a size four or something.” She goes, “Yeah, but Mimi’s a small.” I said, “Okay.” And she got this really nice blouse that really fit nicely. I said, “Olaiya, that’s really pretty.” She goes, “You really like it?” She goes, “I think she’ll like it.” I said, “I think she will.” She goes, “You know, she’s my youngest one and I really love her so much.” And so I said, “Wow, you should really do it.” And she goes, “Yeah. I really want to do that.” I said, “Fine.” So she went and bought it. Then she saw something else, she goes, “I’ve got to get this too.” I said, “How many you going to get?” She goes, “Oh, two or three,” but she got more than one. I remember that because I was with her and it was Christmas. So that’s how I knew Mimi.
So, I just don’t understand why something like this is happening now. Her mother, Olaiya, never brought it up whenever I talked to her about her children. She would always say nice things. And now all of a sudden there’s a problem? I don’t understand that at all. You know, it just never came up that there was a problem. She never said, “Oh, I’m having...,” you know. Never. It was, “Oh, I heard from my children,” or “I am going to see them,” or whatever. So this is just something out of nowhere.
I heard that Mimi said that she was called bad names because of her skin color, like maybe the “N” word. That is so—I am a Scientologist. Nobody would ever even think of calling me a bad name. It’s not even discussed. I mean, it’s like, give me a break. It’s not even discussed. You know, it’s not even discussed. And it would never happen in the Church of Scientology. And if it did, believe me, you’d be in trouble.
So, I don’t think it’s okay that Mimi is attacking her mother’s religion because it comes across as though she is attacking her mother who loved her very much. I knew that her mother Olaiya was a fighter. And Olaiya wanted people to have rights, you know, she fought in the civil rights movement—so she knows about these things. She wanted to actually make it a better world for people and that’s what she was doing. And that’s what her mother told me—that’s what Mimi’s mother told me.
So, I know that she would not like it, and she would not approve. And also she would be shocked that her daughter would do this. So, I mean that’s the way she was.
Well, I just think it’s very, I would say, uncaring for Leah Remini—wait, that’s it. See, I know Leah’s mother. I knew her mother . So, I know what I’m saying. I just think it’s very distasteful to go on a television series and talk about someone who’s no longer with us that she can’t defend herself. See, that to me is being a coward.
It means that you really don’t care. You don’t care. How could you do this when you don’t even know the person? You’ve never met her. Meanwhile, you go and talk to her daughter and get her daughter to say things about her own mother . How would you like it if your daughter did it? You wouldn’t. So, that’s what I think.
